Graduate Computer Science Schools: A Large Variety
Graduate computer science schools are, simply stated, schools with a program that offers computer science and offers the ability to get a masters degree or above in them. This can range from prestigious universities such as MIT or Stanford, or may be as straightforward as an online university. Due to this wide range of graduate computer science schools, you need to research and compare many different ones before you decide on which graduate school to attend. Only then will you be able to make an informed decision about the computer science schools. As there are so many schools, it will only be possible to briefly touch on each of them.
DePaul University has a School of Computer Science, Telecommunications and Information Systems (CTI), which makes it one of the many public graduate computer science schools in the nation. The largest Catholic college in the nation, DePaul is home to one of the largest graduate computer science schools as well. The large size allows the school to offer a range of practical programs and respond to markets demand for updating and changing the skills needed.
Carnegie Mellon is among the more elite graduate schools. One of the first Computer Science Departments (and later Schools of Computer Science) in the country, it offers a wide range of majors, ranging from programming to robotic engineering or theoretical algorithms.
University of Maryland has a Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering which is, while not as elite as Carnegie Mellon's, a full program with three graduate degrees offered. Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering are all majors at the University's graduate level. This is one of the only graduate computer science schools that are sponsored by several government entities, including NASA and military research laboratories. Online programs offer a wide range of different graduate computer schools, ranging from simple introductions to a computer programming language all the way up to studying artificial intelligence. While typically less respected than a formal university, online universities have the distinct advantage of being able to be taken at one's own pace, allowing for additional studies to be taken on, or to even work while in school, a common practice. Additionally, each type of program requires different prerequisites, meaning, you have to have certain things done for each type of program and the things needed will be different for each program. While the more advanced programs may require several years of undergraduate study at that university as well as additional studies in other topics, community colleges and online programs typically require little to no prior training. There are many different styles of graduate computer science schools, as well as many different ways to study in them, with very levels of degrees offered. Each degree offers a slightly different insight into the world of computer science. In addition, the degrees come at different levels of depth of knowledge. Each degree will offer up various new career paths for anyone who attends any of the graduate computer science schools available today.
